We are pleased to report that our concerns about the passage of the cold front were unsubstantiated. There was a wind shift to the northwest overnight, but we are so protected in this harbor that we didn’t notice until morning that the bow of Cutter Loose was pointed in a different direction. Nor was there any precipitation or significant wind associated with this frontal passage. Here’s to a lifetime of friendly cold fronts.
Shelter Island is such an attractive setting that we decided to explore the area by bicycle today. It is an island within Long Island. We dinghied ashore with our folding Bike Fridays and boarded the ferry for the short 10 minute ride from Shelter Island to Greenport, LI. From Greenport, we cycled past oyster farms to Orient Beach State Park, a total of 26 perfectly flat miles (round trip) with scenic water views for most of the journey. No entrance fee at the State Park for bicyclists. And a cold locally brewed IPA at The Dory upon our return to Shelter Island. Seriously, can it possibly get much better than this?
